ISME offers three types of membership:
- Regular Membership: standard or retired
- Student Membership – two terms for a total of 4 years and you must be a full-time student
- Honorary Life Membership
Regular and student memberships are for two years commencing on 1 January of the year in which the member joins or renews, until December of the following year. Honorary Life Membership is permanent. Retired members must be over 65 years of age.
Member benefits
- Free copies of ISME’s quarterly, peer-reviewed music education publication, the International Journal for Music Education
- Present at and attend the ISME world conferences, held every other year
- Present at and attend the ISME pre-conference seminars, held in the lead up to the world conferences
- Present at and attend the ISME regional conferences, held in the alternate year to the world conferences
- Professional Development
- Apply for Annual ISME Research, Advocacy and Conference Awards
- Submit work for consideration in the ISME books, published by Routledge (Taylor and Francis)
- Regular e-newsletters with ISME news
- Voting rights for President-Elect and Board members (members at large)
- Eligible to stand for President or as a Board member (member at large)
- Submit a book review for consideration for publication on the ISME website
Members may also stand for a volunteer position on a Commission, Special Interest Group or other role, affording networking opportunities and skill development, as well as providing service to the profession.
Note: ISME publishes the open source peer-reviewed journal, Revista de Educacion Musical. This is an online journal available to all, resourced by ISME.
Membership fees
Fees are based on the member’s country of residence’s Purchasing Power Parity. This is an internationally recognised method of ranking countries based on the real purchasing power of that country’s currency and standard of living. This means fees are scaled so that members from less wealthy nations pay a smaller fee.
