Markus Cslovjecsek did work for the University of Teacher Education Northwestern Switzerland and its predecessor institutes from 1996 - 2023, most recently on the Executive Board as Project Manager International Campus. From 2007 - 2019, he was member of the executive board and held the Chair of Music Education in Adolescence at the Institute of Secondary Education. He shares his experience and perspectives with the teams of Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and University of the Aegean, among others.
After being trained as a primary and secondary school teacher, he taught for several years at all levels of public school, then and in parallel with his training as a musician and crafts teacher at high school and teacher training college. He studied Cello, Voice and Choral Direction. In his dissertation, completed in 2022 at the Pedagogical University of Freiburg i.Br., he dealt with the legitimacy of compulsory classroom teaching of music as a school subject at the public school.
As a coordinator, teacher, researcher, author, and choral director, he is particularly interested in the relationships between practice, learning, and performance, and in an integrated perspective of teaching and learning. He is co-editor of the book series Mousikae Paideia for Lang Publishers and initiator of the European Music Portfolio EU-Comenius projects. Markus is a founding member of the Special Interest Group on Practice and Research in Integrated Music Education for the International Society for Music Education ISME and initiated a collaborative Cloud Sounds and Arts in Transversal Learning for EAPRIL. He is the director of the concert choir Kantorei Solothurn and offers since 2005 cultural tours for music enthusiasts under the label Viatores Cantantes. Currently together with engineers he is working on the development of a CO2-negative heating system.
